Short Story Contest

Dakota County teens showed their writing skills in the annual Short Story Content. Teens wrote a 1,000-word story based on the image below. Stories will be judged on creativity, clarity, style, form and meaning. Winners will also receive a free copy of the printed anthology of all stories submitted.

Copies of the Dakota County Library anthology will be available for $4 each.

The Teen Short Story Contest was made possible through financial support from Dakota Electric and the Dakota County Library Foundation.

2011 Teen Short Story Contest Winners
Age 12–14

• 1st Place: Timothy Peterson, age 12, Wescott, 1000 Words to Live
• 2nd Place: Lindsey Harris, age 12, Wescott, Selena’s Big Escape
• 3rd Place: Gwen Fairlie, age 13, Galaxie, Nothing Like Chicago

Age 15–18

• 1st Place: Victoria Rabuse, age 15, Wescott, Truth or Dare
• 2nd Place: Maddie Zumbach, age 15, Burnhaven, Always There
• 3rd Place: Cody Jones, age 17, Pleasant Hill, More Speed
