Juvenile Detention Facility FAQ
  • How do I contact my child while he or she is housed in the Juvenile Facility?

Call the facility phone number, 651-438-8399.

  • What are the visitation hours at the facility?

Initial visitation is allowed within the first 24 hours of a child's placement in the facility.  After the first 24 hours have expired, visitors must follow the regular visitation schedule. Call 651-438-8399 for the specific visitation hours.

  • Who can visit someone in the facility?

Parents and legal guardians may visit.  You will need to bring a photo ID.  Other visitors may be approved by program staff.  If someone is denied a visit, he or she will be informed as to why.

  • When can my child be released from detention?

Your child's placement in the detention center has been initially authorized by law enforcement or by a probation officer.  Your child's case must be heard by a judge within 36 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) of his or her arrest, otherwise your child must be released from custody.  Exceptions to this rule would be made by the County's Attorney's office.

  • How do I find out about my child's court hearing?

Juvenile court hearings are held Monday through Friday, beginning at 10 am, at the Judicial Center in the Government Center complex in Hastings, MN.  The probation officer will contact you prior to your child's court hearing.

  • Is my child permitted to have personal items while he or she is in the Juvenile Facility?

The facility provides for all basic needs.  Money is not needed in the facility.  Parents and legal guardians may read the specific program handbooks to find out what clothing and personal items may be brought in as program privileges.

  • What if my child is on medication?

If your child is placed in the residential facility, he or she can receive medications there.  Staff is trained to administer medications as prescribed.  Staff will verify medications with the pharmacy that filled the prescription, as well as get authorization from doctors to dispense the medications.  Medications must be brought into the facility in properly labeled, original containers.
