Water Levels on Lake Byllesby

The recent flooding has had a major impact on Lake Byllesby in southern Dakota County.

According to Sheriff Dave Bellows, the Dakota County Shoreland Zoning Administrator, Tom Berry, has advised the Sheriff’s Office that Dakota County staff is in the process of dropping the water elevations to the winter elevation level. The winter elevation could create problems for homeowners attempting to trailer a boat.

The security warning/boat restraining cable above the dam has failed. This has resulted in both the Dakota and Goodhue County boat launches being closed to the public.

On Thursday, September 30th, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office and Parks Department will have staff on hand at the old Dakota County boat launch adjacent to the Dakota County Park Beach to assist Lake Byllesby home owners with the removal of their boats. We will have a boat available to tow boats to the launch if needed. If assistance from the Sheriff’s Office is requested, please call the Dakota County Communications Center at (651) 322-2323 to make arrangements.

The winter water elevation could potentially remain in effect until Spring, 2011, pending further direction from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
