Awards Ceremony on September 30, 2010

Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows will recognize a number of Sheriff’s staff and civilians at an award ceremony to be held on Thursday, September 30th, at 4:00 p.m.  Sheriff Bellows will recognize these individuals for their efforts in the case of the beating of a vulnerable adult in rural Northfield, the apprehension of a man wanted on a felony warrant in Hastings, and three firefighters who intervened during the assault of a deputy at the scene of a fire in Cannon Falls.

Medal of Merit (Justin Hamilton Case)
The Medal of Merit will be awarded to Detective Rick Schroeder, the lead investigator in the case of a developmentally-delayed man who was beaten and tortured in southern Dakota County in October, 2008.  This case received significant coverage, as it occurred over two evenings and due to the level of brutality suffered by the victim.  Justin Hamilton, the victim in this case, and his family have informed the Sheriff’s Office they will be in attendance for the ceremony.

Unit Citation (Justin Hamilton Case)
The Unit Citation will be awarded to Sergeant Pat Enderlein, Detectives Jennifer Cho, Steve Forrey, Coreen Kulvich, and Dave Sjogren, and Deputies Sharon Drews and Jen Lenarz for their work on the Justin Hamilton case.

Medal of Valor (Roman Tokarev Case)
The Medal of Valor will be awarded to Sergeant Scott Durdall and Deputy Matt Schuster for their actions while attempting to apprehend a suspect wanted on a felony warrant by the Department of Corrections.  The incident occurred in the City of Hastings in December, 2009.  The suspect was driving a stolen vehicle and threatened to kill law enforcement officers.  The chase ended after the suspect crashed his vehicle into a Sheriff’s squad car and he was shot several times.  The suspect, Roman Urevich Tokarev, is awaiting trial on several felony charges.

Medal of Merit (Roman Tokarev Case)
The Medal of Merit will be awarded to Deputies Tim Gonder, Tim Samuelson, Matt Regis, and Mike Fendrick for their actions assisting in the apprehension of Roman Tokarev, who was wanted on felony warrants.

Certificate of Recognition (Roman Tokarev Case)
Certificates of Recognition will be awarded to Sergeant Jim Gabriel and Deputies Matt Wayne and Amber Hentges for their actions in the incident involving Roman Tokarev, wanted on felony charges.

Certificate of Recognition (Fire Scene in Southern Dakota County)
Certificates of Recognition will be awarded to Cannon Falls Firefighters Chris Nelson, Michael Althoff, and Bruce Miller for intervening on behalf of a Dakota County Sheriff’s sergeant while he was being assaulted by a suspect at the scene of a fire
