Man Acquitted of Felony Counts in Burnsville Shooting Death
| [November 12, 2010] Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Michael Cody Schwartz, age 25 of Burnsville, has been acquitted by Judge Michael Sovis of felony charges of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm in a Municipality, and a misdemeanor count of Intentionally Pointing a Gun at Another. Judge Sovis convicted Schwartz of one misdemeanor count of Recklessly Handling a Firearm. These offenses were charged in connection with the shooting death of Logan Daniel Ahlers, age 25 of Burnsville. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 21st at an apartment in Burnsville. Schwartz was charged on November 24, 2009, and later waived a jury trial. The court trial took place in front of Judge Sovis during the week of November 1, 2010. Sentencing has been set for Monday, December 20, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. in Hastings. |
