Hastings Man Convicted of Criminal Sexual Conduct of Infant
| Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Michael Frederick Schmidt, age 41 of Hastings, was found guilty today by a Dakota County jury of one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree in connection with the sexual assault of a 9-month-old girl while under his care at his home in Hastings on April 24, 2010. The jury deliberated for under an hour. Following the guilty verdict this morning, the jury also found that aggravating factors existed to justify an upward departure from Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines. Judge Joseph Carter ordered a pre-sentence investigation and a psycho-sexual evaluation. The defendant was taken into custody this morning. The sentencing will be November 8, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in Hastings. See the attached for the official news release. |
