Defendant Found Not Guilty of Murder by Reason of Mental Illness and Civil Commitment Continues
[February 26, 2010]  Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that significant developments have occurred in reference to murder charges previously filed against Stephen Miles, age 27 of St. Peter (formerly of Eagan). Miles was charged with Murder in the Second Degree in connection with a violent attack upon his stepmother, Maris Jo Miles age 68, on December 30, 2005, at her Burnsville home. Stephen Miles has been hospitalized in St. Peter since the time that criminal charges in this case were filed on January 3, 2006. Stephen Miles was committed as mentally ill and dangerous on June 9, 2006.
