Former Mendota Heights Girl Scout Leader Sentenced for Theft
| [September 13, 2011] Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Joleen Marie Hopkins, age 55 of Mendota Heights, was sentenced today to 90 days in jail, 30 days electronic home monitoring and five years of probation by Judge Shawn Moynihan in connection with using her former position as a Girl Scout leader to steal approximately $8,200 from the Troops’ and Chapters’ accounts. Hopkins pled guilty June 28, 2011 to two counts of Theft By Swindle (both felonies). These thefts are alleged to have occurred in 2008 and 2009. All other charges were dismissed. Hopkins was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $8,419.23. |
