Criminal Vehicular Homicide Charge Suspended
[August 17, 2010]  Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that the prosecution of Todd Charles Gillis, age 43, formerly of Eagan, who was charged* on April 22, 2010, with one count of Criminal Vehicular Homicide (a felony), has been suspended. On August 16th at a competency hearing, retired Anoka County Judge Edward Bearse concluded that as a result of a traumatic brain injury that Gillis suffered in the May 23, 2009 motorcycle crash on the Mendota Bridge which killed his passenger Amber Frandrup, age 25 of Eagan, Gillis is unable to assist in his own defense. Consequently, the prosecution of this case cannot continue at this time.
