Rochester Man Charged with Driving Under the Influence of What is Believed to Be a Recently Banned Synthetic Drug
| [July 6, 2011] Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Michael Allan Andrist, age 46 of Rochester, has been charged* with Felony Driving While Impaired (DWI), Fleeing a Police Officer (a felony), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (a petty misdemeanor) in connection with his arrest by Dakota County Sheriffs Deputies on July 3, 2011 at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Highway 52 near 215th Street in Vermillion Township. Backstrom said that Andrist has 10 prior DWI convictions and four convictions for Fleeing Police Officers in a Motor Vehicle, among other convictions. Based upon field sobriety tests and statements made by the Defendant, officers concluded that Andrist was under the influence of a controlled substance, believed to be a synthetic drug recently banned by a new Minnesota law that went into effect July 1st of this year. |
