The mission of local public health departments has broadened in recent years to include readiness for emergencies. Emerging communicable diseases, the possible use of biological agents by terrorists, and the possibility of an influenza pandemic have placed a spotlight on the importance of public health preparedness and planning.
The Dakota County Public Health Department works with federal, state, county, and municipal agencies to develop and test emergency response plans. Partners include law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, hospital and other health care providers, schools, and non-governmental agencies.
