How do I get a Birth Certificate?
You may purchase a birth certificate for anyone born in Minnesota, before Dec. 31, 1934 at the Northern Service Center. After Jan. 1, 1935, they are available at all five Dakota County locations listed above.
In Person:
- Show tangible interest by filling out a Birth Certificate Application
- Bring the unsigned form and fees to one of our six locations listed above
- Show proof of identity such as a driver's license or passport
- A deputy registrar will witness your signature
By Mail:

- $26 First Certified Birth Record
- $19 Each additional certified copy of the same record issued at the same time
- The Burnsville, Lakeville and Robert Trail License Centers accept Discover and MasterCard. The Administration Center, Northern Service Center and Western Service Center do not accept credit or debit cards.
