A vested interest
Amelia Foster will be honored for her efforts on Aug. 16.In the spring of 2011, Amelia Foster read a story in the book “Chicken Soup for the Soul” about a police dog receiving a bullet-proof vest. When she learned Deputy Matt Schuster’s canine partner, Ace, did not have a bullet-proof vest, the 6th grader was determined to raise enough funds to purchase it.

By soliciting donations and holding a large garage sale, she was able to raise $1,900, and Ace received his vest.

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners will officially thank Foster for her efforts and donation. Deputy Schuster and Sheriff Dave Bellows will present a plaque to Foster at 9 a.m. at the beginning of the Physical Development Committee meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Dakota County Northern Service Center, Conference Room 520, 1 Mendota Road, West St. Paul, MN.

For additional questions, please contact Deputy Schuster at 651-775-7137.
