Haiku, free verse, odes and sonnets
No matter what poetry style you like, all are celebrated at Dakota County Library’s annual poetry contest. Poets of all ages can compete in this year’s poetry contest by submitting an original poem to Dakota County Library branches between March 1–31.
Poems will be judged on creativity, clarity, style and form. First, second and third place will be awarded in five different age groups: adult, teens ages 12-14 and ages 15-18, children ages 6-9 and ages 10-11.
Winners will be announced at three poetry events in April. Winning poems will be published on the Dakota County Library website and printed in separate booklets for children, teens and adults. Winners receive a free copy of the printed booklet.
