Be ready to help in a crisis
Get trained to help your community during a crisis. On June 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Dakota County residents are invited to attend an orientation meeting for the Medical Reserve Corps program. The program will be held in Apple Valley.

Pre-registration is required. To register, send an email to MRC@co.dakota.mn.us by May 27. A light dinner will be provided.

Medical Reserve Corps volunteers include doctors, nurses and others with healthcare credentials. However, volunteers with a variety of skills are also needed to help with computer entry, childcare, assisting clients or other tasks. The Medical Reserve Corps of Dakota County has more than 400 volunteers, some still serving in careers and others who are retired.

The Medical Reserve Corps was created after Sept.11, 2001 to train people to help during a time of crisis. Volunteers supplement local public health staff during emergencies. Residents of other counties can contact their health department for information about their local Medical Reserve Corps.

The Medical Reserve Corps offers volunteers optional quarterly training on topics such as infectious diseases, mass dispensing of medications, psychological first aid and the national incident management system for disaster management. The program provides eligible volunteers with continuing education credits.
