Foreclosure counseling available
Community Development Agency Foreclosure Counseling. The Dakota County Community Development Agency is offering free foreclosure counseling for homeowners who are worried about their mortgage payments.

The event will be on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 3:30–6:30 p.m. at the Apple Valley Municipal Center located at 7100 147th St. W. in Apple Valley.

The event is an open house, and participants are encouraged to come any time from 4 to 7 p.m. No pre-registration is required.

The event will provide information on what happens during the foreclosure process, homeowners’ rights, and solutions for long-term housing needs. Participants will be able to ask questions and get advice—confidentially— from trained homeownership specialists.

The most important thing troubled homeowners can do is to begin working with their lender or foreclosure specialist early. The earlier homeowners act, the more options they have. In 2010, more than 2,100 Sheriff Sales took place in Dakota County, with many more families becoming delinquent on mortgage payments. This was a record-breaking year for foreclosure sales in Dakota County.

If you are unable to attend, but need help or would like more information about foreclosure, please call the Dakota County CDA at 651-675-4555.
