Cedar Avenue Transitway. There are two upcoming opportunities for residents and businesses in Dakota County to get information and provide input on the Cedar Avenue Bus Rapid Transit project.

On Thursday, Dec. 9 from 4–6 p.m. the county will host an open house in the atrium of the Western Service Center. During the open house, residents and businesses owners will be able to provide feedback about proposed Lakeville Area transit stations at 161st Street, Glacier Way, 195th Street and 215th Street.

On Dec. 16 from 7:30–9 a.m., Dakota County will host a project update meeting at the Western Service Center in Room L139. County staff will provide information about the Cedar Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Project.

Cedar Avenue is one of the most traveled roads in Dakota County. In 2012, existing local and express bus routes will be enhanced with station-to-station service, turning Cedar Avenue into a bus rapid transitway.

A portion of the funding for this project was provided by the Counties Transit Improvement Board. The Counties Transit Improvement Board is taking regional transit to the next level in the metropolitan area. Since 2008, five counties – Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington—have utilized a quarter-cent sales tax and a $20 a motor vehicle sales tax, permitted by the Minnesota Legislature, to invest in and advance transitway projects by awarding annual capital and operating grants. The Counties Transit Improvement Board works in collaboration with the Metropolitan Council and Carver and Scott counties.

Questions or comments about the project can be sent to Kristine Elwood, Dakota County, 952-891-7104 or kristine.elwood@co.dakota.mn.us. Look for more news on the Cedar Avenue web page.
